Kyra: Mommy, why does Strawberry Shortcake live alone?
Me: (floundering) Well, maybe she's older than she looks....???
Another thought--turn it around and ask her why she thinks she lives alone. That's the best way to handle those questions you don't have answers to. And you learn more about how her little mind works.

Actually she doesn't live alone. She lives with her baby sister, Apple Dumpling. :) Now that's knowing way too much about Strawberry Shortcake!!
